With the exception of books and certain other basic stuff, I almost never shop online. Makeup? No. Shoes? No. Clothes? Absolutely Not! My whole family knows just how fussy I am about my clothes; the fabric, the fit etc and because of that, I don’t shop for clothes online, tempting though it is at times. When I heard that Asopalav had started a website, Saree.com dedicated to women’s ethnic wear, I couldn’t help check it out because, as any Gujarati will tell you, Asopalav is one of the best stores in Ahmedabad for ethnic wear. Gujjus making a trip to Ahmedabad will surely shop there before heading back home and now, we had the convenience of shopping from there from the comfort of our homes!
Don’t be fooled by the name Saree.com. It isn’t just about sarees. There are Lehngas, Salwar Kameezes and even Wedding Gowns besides Kurtis and Tunics! And all of these run the whole gamut from casual wear to heavy bridal wear offering something for everyone, be it the bride, her mother, her sister or her friends. Or even girls like me who just need n excuse to shop. Some of the outfits on this website are so beautiful, I was tempted to buy them. And I did buy something, a very versatile and elegant outfit that I shall show you below. First take a look at some of my favourite picks from the website…
Cream and Red Lehnga With Aari Work
So, you want to wear a lehnga for your wedding and your mother wants you to wear the “Panetar” (traditional white and red sarees that Gujarati brides wear). Well, don’t have a bridezilla moment, this delicate and pretty cream and red lehnga will keep you and mom happy.
Lime Green Wedding Gown
This dreamy, floaty creation will make you feel like the Belle of the Ball, which of course you are at your cocktails. Pretty pastel with delicate embellishments, this is a beautiful dress that will hug your curves in all the right ways.
Orange Jacquard Lehnga
Why should brides have all the fun? Sister / best friend getting married? Stand apart from the crowd in this beautiful yet minimalist lehnga without stealing the bride’s thunder. Who want’s to be weighed down with all the heavily embellished lehngas when you can look amazing and be comfortable in this?
And now, I’m sure you want to know what I bought. Take a look……
Beige Suit with Red Embroidered Jacket
Seems familiar? Well, you have seen this outfit here when I did the Marvellous Matte makeup look with the L’Oreal Cannes collection.
Going through all the salwar kameezes on saree.com, I was searching for something different from what I already had in my wardrobe. I had several anarkalis so when I saw this long, straight kurta with a beautifully embellished jacket, I placed the order. For several outfits on saree.com, you have the option of customising them. This dress had that option too and as you can see, being customised, it fits perfectly!
The outfit consists of an ankle-length beige kurta in silk with embroidery on the neckline and at the base. The heavily embroidered red silk jacket goes over it making it appropriate festive wear. It comes with a black and cream dupatta and cream pants. The pants are like palazzos and since this whole outfit has a very slim silhouette, I decided to pair it with a pair of black skinny pants.
For a less formal look, you can wear the kurta without the red jacket on top giving the outfit a totally different look….
To be honest, I was worried about whether the quality of the fabric would be the same as that available in the store. What about the finishing of the embroidery? The fit? And I’m glad to say that my worries were unfounded. The quality is excellent! Since this outfit was customised according to my measurements, it fit to the T. Above all, I was impressed with the delivery time. I placed the order on the 22nd of April and the outfit, made to measure, reached me on the 30th of April!
Here’s a closer look at the fabrics and the embellishments…
I am very happy that broke my “no buying clothes online” mantra and decided to shop at Saree.com. Not only is the quality really good, the prices are reasonable too and they have a huge variety of designs, be it sarees or salwars or lehngas or gowns. You can pay via credit / debit card, net banking, Paypal or even Cash On Delivery, which is what I opted for. They stuck to the promised delivery time of 8-10 days the entire process, from placing the order to the deliver was a hassle-free one.
If you have a wedding in the family or if you simply want to buy Indian wear, do check out Saree.com. And let me know what you think of my outfit….
