The Piku Melange Collection And My OOTD

Piku Melange Collection and My OOTD

Last week, I was invited to the launch event of the “Piku Melange Collection” by Deepika Padukone and her co-star in the movie Piku, Irfan Khan. Melange is the in-house ethnic-fusion wear brand by Lifestyle and one which constitutes three-fourths of my home wear wardrobe. This collection has been inspired by Deepika’s character in Piku, a modern, urban girl who is traditional at the same time,Β a girl representing almost all of us urban Indian women! Piku wears functional, trendy and comfortable ethnic wear with a western touch, pretty much what we all wear daily, isn’t it?

The collection is characteristed by bright, summery colours, fluid fabrics and traditional prints and minimal embellishments. Monochromes made an appearance too, paired with pops of colour.Besides the traditional churidars and salwars, the kurtis were also paired with palazzo pants creating a comfortable, modern fusion silhouette. Crushed cotton dupattas, stoles and bolero jackets with ethnic prints completed the collection. Here are some pictures:

And here is my pick from this versatile, wearable, comfortable collection….

Piku Melange Collection and My OOTD

I loved this simple, elegant Kurta from the Piku Melange collection and instead of pairing it with the standard churidar, I decided to break out of my comfort zone and pair it with a pair of printed palazzos. I NEVER wear palazzos. Or any loose pants for that matter. Even the linen pants that I have are snugly fitted and that’s how I prefer my pants and jeans to be.Β In ethnic wear, it’s only churidars for me, no loose salwars. Patiala salwars are totally out of question. But seeing how cool and comfortable these palazzos are, I am definitely getting more of these. And I loved the print on these nicely the print balanced the stark monochrome of the kurta.

For me, getting someone to click pictures for an OOTD is very difficult. Finally, I asked my maid to take the pics. We headed down to the building garden for the shoot and I got weird stares from all the kids playing there and the aunties on their evening walk.

I’m not really a bindi person, unless it is some wedding or festival but since Deepika Padukone has a bindi in the picture with this kurta, I decided to put one too. It’s mom-in-law’s and quite big for my face but I didn’t have any other plain ones. (Another post in which I’m wearing a bindi is this Saree OOTD here).

The Piku Melange collection is really a wonderfully wearable one and I have already picked out several kurtas, and now palazzos too, to be a part of my wardrobe. What I really love about Melange’s collections is that it is ethnic with a contemporary twist. Whether in the hemlines, or the prints or even the fabrics used, the garments are all trendy and comfortable with a nice fit.

Do let me know what you think of my look. Would you pair the kurta with palazzo pants or would you opt for a churidar? Looking forward to your comments πŸ™‚
